we're impatient kids

I know it's only the 20th, but we've already had pretty productive Christmas. It turns out we're not very good with the whole "open on Christmas" idea. There are still three packages under the tree, however: two from Kristien and one from Santa. I think that's the problem with not having an advent calendar-- instead of opening a little cardboard window each day we feel the need to open a new present.

I was going to upload photos of my new underwear and jeans and K's new coat, but those are not nearly as photogenic as Kayin's most recent pre-Christmas present.

We brought it home on Monday night, and you can see it evicted the Jesus family from the corner of the living room.

Then last night we got four more packages in the mail and opened them as soon as we got them in the door. Only after we had finished ohhhing and awwwwing did we realized that these were probably Christmas presents and should have be left wrapped and placed under the tree. But it was too late for that, and there was no wrapping paper to rewrap them, so I wore mine to work today. (Kayin wore his for his photo shoot with the organ)

Then, today, I found Birthday Boots. I'm going back to buy them in a few hours. Pictures to follow.

christmas music

We found this organ yesterday at Salvation Army (or one very similar, anyway). We're going to bring it home tomorrow, and when we get it set up I'll take a picture.
It's a beautiful organ and it sounds wonderful! Everything seems to work as it should and not a scratch. Kayin's going to enjoying playing it and I'm going to enjoy listening to it.
Merry Christmas to us! Thanks mom and dad!

they're not just messing around

My local NPR news just informed me that the space shuttle has docked at the international space station where the astronauts will perform "a bunch of complicated procedures."
Right. Thanks for clearing that up, Mr. Radio Announcer.

storm

It looks like winter is going to start tonight. It's been raining for the last few days and tonight it's going to start with the snow. The forcast's exact words are: Definite Snow. Our apartment is really an attic and it's been nice to be so close to the rain. Such a soothing sound to wake up and fall asleep to.
My camera is not in any of it's usual hangouts, but I'm hoping it will come home soon so I can get pictures of the snow tomorrow morning.

Irvine?

So I think I'm going to go to the conference. It's in the end of January in Irvine. Hmmm, I wonder who I could see while I'm in Irvine?

phonectics, phones, and planes

*warning: my spell checker is broken. proceed with caution*

just stopping in to say "hi." Hi.
It's raining today, which is sorta pleasent.
I've been missing phone calls lately, and if you are one of the scores of people trying to get ahold of me, I appoligise. It's not that I don't want to talk to you--I do. Ever since high school phones and I just don't seem to get along. I mean, we were inseperable in high school, but ever since graduation things just haven't been the same. Maybe I can only talk on the phone with people that I've seen within the last 45 minutes.
I might go to a conference in southern california in January. I have to make sure it dosen't overlap with my prelim exams and that I can get myself on a plane. I'm a worrier, but not usually a freaker outer, so maybe I could keep myself together and do it. maybe.
ok, well, now I have to stop typing because I can't type and wring my hands at the same time.

If you're looking for a gift for me I would like you to consider this.

found it! (or fall has fallen)

I found my camera and took these pictures on my walk to school today.
It's a bit grey and gloomy today, but that's good because I get to wear my great tights.
The forecast has snow on Thursday. ... I'm not really ready for winter.

These are the train tracks, but in Ann Arbor there is no "wrong side."

I'm taking a trip to Chicago this weekend. I think it's going to be a beautiful drive.

David's right

yeah, ok, I'm not a very good blogger.
I wanted to post a photo, but I can't find my camera. It's got to be around here somewhere... or maybe it's at school...
...
I'm good.
Kayin's good.
the cats are good.
the apartment's good.
things are good.

...

Kayin's on his way home from work and is going to bring me a sandwhich for lunch. veggie. no sprouts.

right. I hope I find my camera soon.

Oh! and how cool that there are actual people actually reading my blog!
Thanks! I love you!

clarification and roja's myspace

So, most of the posts here are over a year old. I thought about deleting them, but that seemed like work, so I left them.

This summer has been super lame. Well, there were two especially super lame parts. The only vacation that we got to take ended in a plane crash. And for two months we had to live on other peoples' couches because our landlord sold our house.

Which is why I am so glad that we have this snazy new apartment, because it's not a couch. And since we have this great new apartment, we must not have died in the plane crash.

If Roja had a Myspace, this would be her profile pic.

Tour of the new pad

It's been a crazy summer, and classes start tomorrow.
We are about three boxes away from being unpacked in our great new apartment, so here are some pictures. It's still a bit cluttered, but starting to feel like home.

The front of our new house. The top window is our bedroom window

Our fire escape. Soon with plants. Our friend, Amy, lives in the apartment below us.

Inside our front door, steps to our coat closet.

Kayin's office, taken from in front of the coat closet.

Top of entry stairs. Kayin's office and dinning area and kitchen counter. The coat closet to down the stairs to the left.

Taken from the top of the entry stairs. Our kitchen and hall to living room and bedroom.

Our bathroom (with skylight) is off the hall.

Living room and doorway to bedroom.

Living room dormer. The window leads to the fire escape. Bedroom door is to the right, hallway to the left.

Maus and I are sitting in the chair by the dormer.

This is the view from the skylight.

And here is our mini bedroom.

I hope you've enjoyed the tour!

I'll see if I can make posting a regular thing.
